Return2Sport Expo

An easy start indoors - later
they were kerb-hopping
The Royal Rehabilitation Centre in Sydney have just held their annual Return2Sport Expo featuring many different ways that those with disabilities can get more active - including the TrailRider which they shipped up from Canberra for the show.

The Pilot here is Will, accompanied by his sister and friend. He is a high-level quadriplegic and was thrilled to meet the TrailRider - especially after they gave it a whirl outdoors amongst kerbs and speed-bumps

The second photo shows the TrailRider beside Will's normal, motorised chair and make the point about transferring between the two. Because the two seats are at more or less the same level it is a normal, sideways transfer.

Next step for Sydney? Clearly a TrailRider or two somewhere. It's a long drive to Tidbinbilla.

National TV (briefly)

Eye-catching camera work from Mark
Two friends walked into a bar (sounds like the start of a joke I know) and News24 was quietly on the screen. Suddenly they saw me and the TrailRider!

On Saturday mornings News24 has a State by State where they screen stuff from Statelines around the nation and they were in the right place at the right time.

Did anyone else see it?

What do you do with kids in wheelchairs when it rains?

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it is two TrailRiders beside
the Lerderberg Rivver
TrailRiders are a "natural" for schools where kids with mobility issues are mixed in with the able-bodied. The Frankston Special Developmental School, on camp at Blackwood, borrowed chairs from Bacchus Marsh and Daylesford and went out in the rain.

The result, apart from some very happy kids, was some of the rare photos of two TrailRiders in action.

Many thanks to Deb Shaddock at Daylesford for passing on these photos. Schools and TrailRiders are a long-held dream of mine.
Two sherpas are all you need on a level track

First time on TV

The ABC were as good as their word - 7:30 pm on Stateline. Thank you Chris and Mark for some lovely work.

This link might only work if you live in Australia. I will be getting an international version up ASAP.

Tidbinbilla - first time on the TV?

The long-awaited TV photographer
in action
Today (Thursday 17th October) Ros and I visited Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve near Canberra to take the first non-Victorian chair out for a spin. For the first time ever there was a TV (ABC) camera and journalist present and (fingers crossed) ACT Stateline will air at 7:30 pm 18/10.

Tidbinbilla is where visitors to any of the parks in the ACT can borrow the TrailRider before they head out into the bush. Check out the Directory for the phone number - don't forget your helmet,

Keith (back) and Andrew strut their
stuff as the ACT's first sherpas
Ros' brother Keith and his friend Andrew were the sherpas - both on their first outing and both eager to be out there again and to be founding ACT's own volunteer sherpa network.
